Meson exchange currents in deep inelastic scattering by a deuteron

The principal diagrams which determine the meson corrections to the structure function of the deuteron Ff(x) have been calculated. The contribution of the one-pion and two-pion exchange toF%(x) has been determined. Allowance for the meson currents is shown to restore only half the energy sum rule, which is violated by the oif-shell effects of the nucleons, for the quark distribution of the deuteron.
