A disproportionately large Faraday effect of isolated octahedral FeO^ ~ complexes has been observed for the first time. It is explained theoretically. The approach taken here leads to a consistent description of the magnetooptic activity of paramagnetic and magnetically ordered crystals, including weak ferromagnets.
