Mechanisms for magnetic-field generation in laser plasmas
The spatial-temporal structure of magnetic fields in a laser plasma has been studied by a Faraday-effect method for the first time, at incident beam intensities ~ 5χ 1014 W/cm2. Analysis of the experimental data shows that the magnetic fields are generated as a result of the excitation of a thermal emf and a ponderomotive emf. The spatial structure of the magnetic field indicates that this field has an important effect on the hydrodynamics of the plasma corona.
