Trapping of atoms in the near field of laser light

Atomic-trap configurations of a new type which arise in the near field of laser light are discussed. If there is a negative detuning of the frequency Ω, and the atoms are pulled into a region of str onger field, a trap arises at the axis of the system in front of an aperture.
