Effect of x-ray irradiation on the magnetoplastic effect in NaCl
A new method is proposed for investigating the effect of irradiation with x-rays on the spectrum of point defects in crystals. The method is based on studying the magnetoplastic effect in the irradiated crystals. The main information is contained in the measurements of the average travel distance of dislocations as a function of the rotational frequency of the sample in a magnetic field. Experimental studies of NaCl crystals demonstrated that the method is uniquely sensitive to small irradiation doses (starting at 103 rad). It was found that the measured frequency dependences of the dislocation displacements respond to a change in the state of the existing impurity centers and to the production of intrinsic radiation-induced defects. The kinetics of the regeneration of radiation-induced defects and metastable states of impurity complexes as a result of illumination of the irradiated samples by a tungsten lamp for r,= 15-60 min was analyzed. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.
