Characteristic features of some typical spontaneous intensity collapse processes in unstable media
Kudashev V. R. , Suleimanov B. I.
The results of a local analysis of spontaneous intensity collapse processes in unstable media in the nonlinear geometric optics approximation for situations of the "general position" are presented. It is shown that these processes correspond to fold and cusp singularities which are typical for smooth mappings. It is shown that when the effect of weak dispersion is taken into account, a pulse is described near points of self-peaking by a special nonlinear function — an isomonodromic solution of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.
