Smectic fluctuations in the Ornstein-Zernike approximation
It is shown that Ginzburg's criterion for the nematic-smectic-^ [NA ) transition contains a small parameter: the ratio of the molecular diameter to the molecular length. This permits studying smectic fluctuations in the Ornstein-Zernike approximation. The nature of the critical behavior in this case depends essentially on the width of the nematic zone.
