Energy dissipation mechanisms in high-M collisionless shock waves: a study based on measurements by the Prognoz 8 satellite

Comparison of the spectra and intensity of lower hybrid waves with the ion energy distributions shows that the energy dissipation in strong shock waves results from a collisionless relaxation of a multiple-stream ion motion at the wavefront.
