Double charge exchange of π mesons on nuclei with a change in strangeness
Double charge exchange reactions of π ~ mesons in nuclei with a change in strangeness (ir~ -^K +), as well as the π~ —► π +K° transitions, have been observed for the first time, A method is suggested for measuring the reaction cross sections without identification of the К + mesons. Experimental data indicate that the process, basically, has a two-step nature. Several nucleons of the nucleus (n > 2) can participate at once in the direction. The experiment was carried out in the MIFI five-hundred centimeter bubble chamber for Pw = 3.9 GeV/sec.
