The decay of photon produced excitons into Fresnel defects (Fand Η centers) was observed in CsBr crystals at 4.2 K. The reverse process—light-or heat-stimulated recombination of Η centers with F centers—leads to the production of autolocalized excitons that give a characteristic, 3.5-eV, polarized luminescence.
