Cygnus X-3 and the photinos
The possibility that the neutral radiation with an energy of 1015-1016 eV which has been detected from Cygnus X-3 might be interpreted as a flux of photinos is discussed. Calculations are carried out on the production of photinos in the source through the production and decay of gluinos and on shower production in the earth's atmosphere in the reactions γ + N > γ + X and γ + e -+e-+f + e. The results show that the "photino hypothesis" requires an unacceptably large source luminosity: Lp £ 1044 erg/s.
