Changes caused in the energy structure of self-trapped excitons by hydrostatic pressure in CsI and RbI crystals

Experiments reveal a change in the sign of the baric shift and a sharp decrease in the intensity of the photoluminescence band of self-trapped excitons in Csl near 8 kbar. It is suggested that the effects are due to an inversion of radiating states of self-trapped excitons. The photoluminescence of singlet self-trapped excitons disappears from Rbl at an 0\-^0 \ phase transition.
