A new method of studying the acoustic properties of semiconductors, which is based on direct conversion of electromagnetic and ultrasonic waves, is proposed. At Γ~ 20 К an indium-doped lead-tin telluride exhibits an anomalous feature in the velocity of longitudinal ultrasound. This anomaly is caused by the transition of the crystal to the ferroelectric phase.
