Drift chamber for the registration of strongly ionizing particles

We investigate a drift chamber filled with the mixture He4 + C02 or He4 + CH4, intended for the registration of strongly ionizing particles. The chamber has high coordinate and time resolution (o~k S0.2 mm, Δ tz* 80 nsec). The electron drift velocities were measured for the mixtures He4+ (5, 10, 20, 30)% CH4 and He4+ (5, 10, 20, 30)% C02. It is shown that if the chamber is filled with He4 +CH4 the registration efficiency is — 100% over the entire width of the drift gap.
