Spontaneous compaction in Kaluza-Klein models and the Casimir effect
A particular mechanism for spontaneous compaction in Kaluza-Klein models is analyzed. The compaction in this case results from the quantum vacuum expectation value of the energy-momentum tensor of the matter fields. It is shown that the space M4XSd is a solution of the effective Einstein equations.
