Gas laser using ionized europium
A high-power pulsed and quasicontinuous lasing was obtained using singly-ionized europium in the near infrared. The laser has high efficiency. New promising conditions for gas-laser excitation are found. An electron current up to 5 kA with pulse duration up to 4 usee was obtained in a diode with a multiple-tip cold-emission cathode. The possibility of increasing the current-pulse duration are discussed. We have observed and investigated new manifestations of Fermi resonance in the spectrum of spontaneous Raman scattering of light by polaritons in an LilOa crystal. They occur in the region of intersection of the upper polariton branch with the branches of three closedly adjacent "weak" polar oscillations, and consist, in particular, in the appearance of a threefold splitting of the dispersion curve of the scattering polaritons.
