Population inversion in nitrous oxide at high pressures and temperatures
Absolute population inversion is obtained for a number of lines of the 00^1 10°0 transition of the N20 molecule through resonant energy transfer from the vibrationally-excited nitrogen produced when some of the N2O molecules are decomposed, The inversion reached 1017 cm"3 at a total pressure 28 atm and a gas temperature 2000°K.
