Stimulated emission of neodymium ions in quartz glass

Stimulated emission from neodymium-doped quartz glass having a coefficient of thermal expansion 6xl0~7 deg"1 is reported for the first time. It is found that this material is not inferior in its spectral and luminescence characteristics to commercial silicate glass with neodymium.
