Effect of smooth fluctuations of the composition of a semiconducting solid solution on the shape of the intrinsic absorption edge
A quasiclassical approximation is used to calculate the dependence of the effective optical extinction coefficient !<(ω) on the frequency near the edge of the fundamental band in semiconducting solid solutions, with allowance for the inevitable fluctuations of the composition and width Sg of the forbidden band. For the case of a plate made of material m which light is absorbed as a result of allowed direct interband transitions, one measures not the usual function Κ (ω) ^ Λω but either Κ (ω) ^ (fioj gp)3'2 or (ηω ^g)1. depending on the character of the variation of &g with the plate thickness.
