"Slow" depolarization of positive muons in aqueous solutions of paramagnetic ions
We measured the spin relaxation time of a μ+ meson in solutions with different concentrations of a number of paramagnetic ions [Ac]. The results reveal a deep analogy with the data on the proton spin-spin relaxation times (T2) obtained by the NMR method (with allowance for the difference between the magnetic moments of the proton and the π+ meson). The deviation from a linear dependence (when plotted in coordinates logT2 and log[Ac]) at high ion concentrations in the solution are interpreted as a change in the degree of the dissociation of the salt, a change that depends on the nature of the anion.
