Taylor instability of the thin cylindrical shell
We obtain an exact solution of the problem of motion of a thin cylindrical shell under the influence of external pressure. It is shown that instabilities of the Taylor type develop upon compression and cannot be stabilized by rotation. The excitation spectrum of a flat film in a gravitational field, with the surface tension taken into account, is obtained.
