Could the oxygen superstructure in YBa2Cu3O6.35 exist?
In order to explain why the real superstructure in the basal plane of õ÷ÁÇóÉÚïÂ+È at χ Ñ; 0.35 can exist and be observed experimentally the simple electrostatic and charge transfer mechanisms are invoked. The numerical estimates support a possibility for the superstructure (proposed by Hohlwein et al), formed by very short Cu-O-Cu chain fragments, to co-exist with the tetragonal phase, consisting of the short fragments arranged spatially at random.
