Forward stimulated scattering by a grating nonlinearity has been achieved in a planar sample of a nematic liquid crystal (5CB) for light with a wavelength Я = 0.63 μτη and a power —0.03 W. The wavefront of the incident light is reproduced in the scattering. Because of the small grating period, 3 μτη, there is a frequency shift of 24 Hz in the stimulated scattering, and the rise time of the scattering is —0.06 s.
