The structure of a gluon string
An effective approximate Lagrangian, which makes it possible to derive equations for average gluon fields, is constructed on the basis of quantum chromodynamics. The field distribution in a gluon string that connects a quark and an antiquark is found. The gluoelectric field directed along the string is surrounded by a circular gluomagnetic field. The fields are localized in a region whose transverse dimension is on the order of the confinement radius. The tension coefficient of a string is estimated.
