Optimal plasma compression in Z and 0 pinches
The feasibility of adiabatic compression of a uniform plasma, not accompanied by the development of shock waves, is demonstrated. The laws governing the optimal growth of the external magnetic field (Θ pinch) and of the longitudinal current (Ζ pinch) are obtained.
