Observation of stimulated forward orientational light scattering in a planar nematic liquid crystal
Stimulated forward orientational scattering of light has been achieved experimentally in a planar sample of the nematic liquid crystal 5CB in a free-running pulse from a ruby laser. The stimulated scattering is definitely not a steady-state process. Measurements of the time evolution of the stimulated-scattering signal and of its angular spectrum confirm theoretical predictions. The steady-state gain is extremely high, reaching 5 χ 103 cm/MW.
